Kameel
“Kameel chugs a bit towards the Belgian nu-jazz scene, but there is a bit of everything in it. Sometimes ripping electric guitar, sometimes wild jungle rhythms, usually an intriguing melody too. As befits jazz skilled musicians but I wouldn't put the music in that pigeonhole. A true listening trip, I wouldn't hesitate."
This is just a random review of the debut record by Kameel (‘Camel’ in Dutch), found online. So when they asked us to design the artwork for their debut album, we didn’t hesitate. And while we were at it, we also created the covers for their second and third releases.
The first was shot by photographer Alex Salinas, it caused quite a stir at the time of the release. A strong image for a strong band. The cover was brought to life in the video by Lore Vandebeek and Kristof Lauwers, the creative duo behind Motorhoofd & Bergland.
The second LP is fronted by a piece of art by our beloved photographer and friend, Karel Fonteyne. Squint, as the soundtrack itself, it forms the perfect sleeve for the second Kameel record.
The artwork for their third release, ‘Variomatic,’ spins retro through a strange new lens. Inspired by DAF’s visionary gearbox, it hums with motion and memory — caught between past and future.
